GAA: Europeans need a new shrimp narrative

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) has produced an article on the work on shrimp safety carried out by Stirling University and sponsored by SIPA.

The article explains how the negative perception of farmed shrimp in Europe has been fuelled by media stories on mangrove destruction, contamination and labour abuse, whereas the stories on the contribution to economic growth, employment and poverty reduction go untold. Another important message that is not reaching European consumers is that farmed shrimps do not post the toxicology risks that people have been led to believe.
