Published by SIPA

Seafood Europe’s Sustainability Manifesto sets out its vision for a healthy marine and aquatic environment that sustains coastal communities and a thriving European seafood industry. It reflects the commitment of the European seafood industry to safeguard the future of marine and aquatic resources through sustainable practices and by actively working towards healthy marine ecosystems and sustainable aquaculture.

According to Jennie Montell, Vice-Chair of Seafood Europe’s Sustainability Group,  the manifesto provides industry with “a clear roadmap to approach sustainable practices throughout the value chain to ensure a more resilient future.”

The Sustainability Manifesto covers:

  • how seafood is critical to global nutrition and the need to make those health benefits accessible to all
  • the importance of responsible fishing, fishery management and healthy oceans
  • the necessary shift toward responsible aquaculture
  • responsible processing, highlighting the need for ethical sourcing and environmentally friendly manufacturing methods, prioritizing CO2 reduction and waste utilisation
  • protecting human rights and promoting community development in seafood supply chains
  • providing transparent and accurate information to build trust
